You cannot change what shows up when you comment on other people’s stuff. Whether your friends can see the actual picture etc. is determined by the person who posted it’s settings – if they have it set to only friends, not friends of friends, then your friends won’t see it but if they have it more open then they will. I would assume whenever you do an “activity” on FB that it will be going out to the news feed.
